Carrigaholt Castle in County Clare, shortly before sunset. The sea was rough and I took advantage of a nearby sea wall to catch a wave in action as the sun sank behind the castle - dating from the 15th century or so - which is apparently closer to a fortified manor house than a castle.

In this shot, framed against the famed Twelve Bens of Connemara, the mid-1600s ruined barracks of Cromwell is perched on the edge of Inishbofin island. It was used to house captured Catholic clergy before deportation elsewhere.
