Established in 1835, this lighthouse has been regularly upgraded over the years and now has a modern LED bulb, various kinds of radio signalling, is fully automated, and so on. The cluster of buildings around it have all been sold. Here it is on a relatively sunny day, from the land side.
This freshwater lake close to Killarney, Co. Kerry, Ireland, is shown here chilled in the solidity of winter and against a glowering sky. The house you can squint to see at the far end where the setting sun lowers is abandoned (though if you hear it's up for sale, let me know.)
In Killarney National Park, this view is onto the so-called Black Lough towards the Head of the Gap of Dunloe. The Wishing Bridge is behind us, and Strickeen Mountain is to the right. February can often be quite cold in Ireland, and on this trip, snow had scattered itself gently across high ground, though some clearly remaining waiting to fall in the clouds.
