Three Rock Vista

A vista down to Dublin Bay from Three Rock mountain. Low resolution, since it was taken a long while ago (late 2000), but I like to think you can see Wales in the distance.

Eask View

Two Boats

Skellig Sweep

The Skelligs are a UNESCO World Heritage Site off the coast of Co. Kerry, famous for many things but most recently being a filming location for the last Star Wars trilogy. In this picture we see Little Skellig ("Sceilig Bheag"), the smaller of the two, and the less hospitable to humans -- though neither of them can really be described as hospitable, as such.

Brandon Point Sunrise

Sunrise at Brandon Point, Co. Kerry. My friend Peter and I arose early to try to catch the dawn, but unfortunately the sun was shrouded in clouds for all but this fleeting moment. Ten seconds later the cloud had closed over again and the sun was not to be seen directly for most of the rest of the day.

Tralee & Blennerville Railway

The once-and-potentially future refurbished Tralee & Dingle railway, on a short section re-opened for tourists between Tralee & Blennerville, Co. Kerry.

Standing Proud

The South Bull Wall Lighthouse stands proud under a glowering sky, framed by the twin towers at the entrance to Dublin Bay. Taken from the ferry to Holyhead.

Caragh Lake View

Caragh Lake is (yet another) beautiful lake in Co. Kerry, Ireland. By official accounts, created by damming the Caragh river, it is now an area of special conservation, with it's own rare slug. In this view, we are looking across to the McGillycuddy Reeks mountain range as a group of fishermen cluster at the bottom end of the lake.

Annascaul Lake

Anascaul Lake is a very peaceful 64-acre freshwater lake nestling amidst the Carrigblather mountains on the Dingle Peninsula. In this shot do indeed we see the very edge of the lake, but focus more on those unearthly mountains and their riot of colour, despite the stormy, overcast day.

The foothills of Carrauntoohil, Ireland's highest mountain, on the way to Lough Callee.

Vance's Harbour

Close to the Maretimo area of Blackrock, a number of buildings and special facilities were built for the property owners that the Dublin to Kingstown railway went through. This compensation was reportedly necessary to allow the railway to go ahead. In any event, the harbour directly beside the line, reachable at low tide, used to have a metal cross serving some nautical purpose which has now sadly broken off. Here we see it during a very blue sunset.

Onwards and Upwards

An advertising Zeppelin gently steers over a waveless bay, close to Redwood City and San Mateo in Silicon Valley.

Bray Head View

On a very bright but cold day walking up Bray Head in the twilight of a winter's afternoon, we paused to take a look across Dublin Bay. For a moment, under the failing light, the plan of the bay was laid out clear: the promontory of Dalkey; Dalkey island and the ruined buildings & martello tower; Muglin's lighthouse; Howth and the Bailey lighthouse; and Ireland's Eye, dimly visible at the back. All with a sea I had no right to expect would be that blue. In the far left corner, the Bray Head cross looks over it all.

Dough Castle & Bridge 2

The almost totally ruined Dough Castle (1306) by Lahinch Golf course lurks under an impressively threatening sky.

Treptower Statue

The monumentally bonkers Treptower Park in Berlin, Germany, a Soviet-constructed monument to fallen war dead (and the Soviet war effort). This particular statue is by sculptor Yevgeny Vuchetich, and is "a 12-m tall statue of a Soviet soldier with a sword holding a German child, standing over a broken swastika." (Wikipedia.) This is apparently a reference to real-world events.

Rossbeigh Runner

On Rossbeigh Beach, Co. Kerry, a runner splashes through the wash of the seawater as the clouds cluster over the Dingle Peninsula in the background.

Land split by roads and sea, scraped over by centuries of weather. The sun pushes its own god-rays through the clouds onto the sea. This is on Towney Road, near Kilcar, Co. Donegal.
