LE Granualie at Night

The official maintenance ship of the Commissioners of Irish Lights looms out of the fog on the Dublin south quays. You can dimly see old tramlines to the left, but much of the more modern buildings are entirely obscured by the fog. It would have been quite dangerous (and wet) to walk much further...

Misty Sunset

Normally I prefer precision in my photographs, but something about this shot across Dublin's southside from Killiney Hill at sunset reminds me strongly of a painting. Perhaps pointillist? Visible are the old lead mines stack, some construction cranes (never far away in Dublin), the M50, and Wicklow's rolling hills.

The Phoenix Park in Freezing Fog

On a chill day in late 2020, a freezing fog descended on much of Ireland and hid the sun for a goodly proportion of the day. I went out to the Phoenix Park near where I lived to see if I could capture anything useful: In this shot, the sun retreats behind an opalescent shield, and is framed by the dark finger-bark of trees.

Healy Fog

At the top of the Healy Pass between Cork and Kerry, a general mist covers low-lying land. The sun struggles to punch through the clouds; when it does, its rays turn into a general spread of pearly opalesence. The silence was notable.
